Opelousas, LA residents have a new way of exploring the history of their native music. According to Offbeat Magazine, a “Zydeco Music” exhibit has opened in the city’s Vieux Village Welcome Center and focuses on the music’s historical trajectory. From Offbeat:
The City of Opelousas Tourism created the “Zydeco Music” exhibit, which explores the development and culture of this unique, Louisiana-born style of music and dance. The presentation includes seven panels that display the legends of zydeco, the history and information on how these Creole sounds developed from the colonial period to the present in South Louisiana.
The exhibit, which was made possible through a grant from divisions of the National Park Service, will also include a traveling version that will reach even more Louisiana residents.
