While Zydeco musicians have a lot of fun putting their Creole flair on mainstream pop and rock songs (just ask Sean Ardoin, Buckwheat Zydeco or C.J. Chenier) it’s less often that a band outside of Southwest Louisiana covers a zydeco tune. But not only has Phish frontman Trey Anastasio covered Chris Ardoin and Double Clutchin‘s 1998 single “Acting the Devil,” he and his solo band have played the song in concert thirty times between 2001 and 2014.

A video of TAB’s 2002 concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, NJ surfaced a couple years ago, with the band opening their show with the cover. You can listen to the performance below (played between 00:00 and 05:30), followed by the original. See what other zydeco songs Phish fans are digging here.
