With Carnivale coming to a close and New Orleans’s biggest parade day happening today, Nick Spitzer highlights Mardi Gras traditions “in the Crescent City and beyond” on the latest episode of American Routes.

Listen to an archived interview with the late Big Chief of the Wild Magnolias, Bo Dollis, before exploring other Carnivale incarnations in Nice, France and Coney Island, New York. Stream the episode here and hopefully you’ve gotten your tickets for Allons Danser and Zydeco Crossroads’ own sold-out Mardi Gras costume party with Jeffrey Broussard & The Creole Cowboys, happening Saturday, February 21st at Material Culture. If not, there’s still space for the next free ZC dance party at World Cafe Live with Koray Broussard & The Zydeco Unit and Leon Chavis & The Zydeco Flames on Friday, February 27th; RSVP here.
